What's up, Doc: Meet Dr. Kamran Aslam
Kamran Aslam, an electrophysiologist, joined Swedish Covenant Hospital's staff in January.

This profile is part of a series introducing Swedish Covenant Hospital's physicians to all hospital employees. This is an opportunity to get to know our doctors and better understand their care philosophies.

Dr. Kamran Aslam is an electrophysiologist at Swedish Covenant Hospital. Before joining Swedish Covenant Hospital in January, he traveled the world providing medical relief work to people in need of cardiac care.

He specializes in the latest atrial fibrillation ablation procedures and implant devices.

What is your practice philosophy?
Do the right thing and to always do right by patients. I always try to remember to do for them for what I would do for my own family.

What can you offer Swedish Covenant Hospital patients?
In electrophysiology we manage people’s cardiac arrhythmias through medicines, devices and minimally invasive surgery. Whereas some patients may require only medication, others can benefit from defibulators and pacemakers, and others from minimally invasive ablations.

What brought you to Swedish Covenant Hospital?
Fate brought me to Swedish Covenant Hospital. I saw an excellent opportunity to spearhead a new electrophysiology program within the hospital and work with patients with all varieties of heart rhythm disturbances.

What is your favorite part of your job?
As lame as it may sound, helping people is the best part of my job. That is actually how I started doing medical relief work. I have had the opportunity to help people in Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nicaragua and Honduras. These experiences have helped me actualize my skills and given me a global perspective on medicine.

Also, as a young doctor, I enjoy teaching residents and students.

What is an interesting fact about you?
I love photography, which fits in nicely with my interest in eco-tourism and mountain climbing (although I haven’t had time in the last year), as well as SCUBA diving.
